A Female Golf Champion at Augusta National GC?

In 2014, the Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship was hosted by Augusta National.

This is a free, nationwide, junior skills competition open to boys and girls ages 7-15. This youth golf development initiative was first held in 2012 and sponsored by the PGA, USGA, and the Master’s Tournament Foundation.

Qualifying takes place throughout 50 states and Canada, from May through August. The final tournament is scheduled on the Sunday before Masters week.

Kelly Xu from Santa Monica, CA, became the first female golf champion ever at Augusta in 2014 by winning the event at 9 years of age. This year Kelly is the only returning champion, so she can be the first back-to=-back female winner at Augusta National.

Watch Kelly’s attempt to complete this historic feat on Sunday, April 5, ’15, at 9am on the Golf Channel.

I love the Drive, Chip, and Putt event because it encourages more kids to choose golf as a sport they can enjoy for a lifetime. Plus, it fosters feelings of achievement and creates long-lasting friendships.
