The Punch Shot is a shot saver that will help you get out of tricky situations where you need to lower the trajectory of the golf ball.

In this video golf tip, Mel Sole demonstrates the Punch Shot and explains the club selection, setup, address, and swing aspects of this handy shot. Practice the Punch Shot and make it part of your arsenal of stroke savers to take your game to the next level!

Here are some points to note:

  1. Move the ball back in your stance.
  2. Don’t use a straight-faced club like a 4 or 3 iron.  Because you have moved the ball back, you have delofted the club.  Use a 5 iron or higher.
  3. Make sure you clear your lead side to keep the hands ahead of the clubhead.
  4. Curtail the follow-through.  If you follow-through with a high finish the ball flight will be higher.
