A year ago, the PGA tour began allowing cell phones at the Honda Classic and said that they must be put on vibrate.

HA! And they must not be used to take photos or videos of the golf action.

Good Luck with that!

How many times do we see players backing off of their shots because they’ve just heard the clicking of the camera function on a cell phone, which can be as loud as a regular camera? The professional photographers know to wait until the club has hit the ball, but the other 30-40,000 in the gallery don’t know or care enough to do that.

Is Cell Phones at Tournaments a bad decision by the PGA Tour.

Cell Phones are becoming a major distraction for players on tour.

Phil Mickelson was very clearly put off by the amount of camera noise at the Memorial Tournament this year. He cited ‘mental fatigue’ and a need to prepare for the U.S. Open as to why he withdrew from the Memorial, but you can bet that cell phones clicking aided his mental fatigue.

The PGA has said that it wants to be more fan-friendly and let the attendees follow the action on other holes on their electronic devices. Hey, we all survived quite well at tournaments before the invention of the cell phone, and we can do that now also. Think of the time and aggravation you’ll save the players.

I supported the confiscating of cell phones at the 2011 U.S. Open at Congressional on tournament days. I support Australia’s banning of cell phones and cameras. If we can’t survive for 4 or 5 hours without a break from our telephones, we are pathetic.
