At last week’s British Open, 5 Amateurs were competing in a field of 156 players.
Most of us know that amateurs cannot accept prize money for winning a tournament. The governing bodies of golf have put that rule in place to identify those who compete in golf to make a living (professionals) and those who do not play for financial gain (amateurs).
The Rules of Amateur Status allow amateurs to play without the pressures of sponsorships and other monetary arrangements.
But what about all the ‘bling’ we saw being worn and used by those amateurs at the Open? Those young guys sported the latest and greatest equipment and apparel. Was it free stuff?
