I certainly agree with the observation made here by an HDiD Golf Academy golf instructor. 

This is a great explanation of the difference between coil and shoulder turn. Jim McLean used to call it the “X-Factor,” but it is basically the difference between the shoulder turn and hip turn at the top of the backswing.  The bigger the angle, the more distance you are going to hit the ball!

The players that can create a lot of power in their swing are the ones who can create a big coil. The greater the coil, the more the angle between the shoulder and hip turn.  You then havwe a greater the ability to generate distance.
