Here’s Your Laugh for Today!

Zurich Insurance, a sponsor on the PGA Tour, recently gave a test to some top male & female golfers while they were hooked up to a lie detector. Mainly it is to find out if they truly love golf, but the questions are quirky and hilarious.

Watch this video on YouTube for a belly laugh:

In a recent video series, Zurich Insurance put professional golfers to the test, trying to determine if they really love golf. The result was obvious: they do. However, sprinkled in were many moments of hilarity brought on by puzzling questions.

It turns out that Rickie Fowler could be talked into insuring his “beautiful face,” Ben Crane does not stow his golf clubs in a safe and if a linebacker stole Billy Horschel’s putter, Horschel would definitely tackle him to get it back.

In the end, those three did pass the test, the golfers got the “True Lover of Golf” trophy.

Zurich Insurance protects what people love. So as sponsor of golf professionals, we decided to find out how much they love the game – with the help of a lie detector. Watch the pros sweat and strain as they answer some truly surprising questions.

I think it would be interesting to watch the Professional women play the same course as men.

Imagine the greats of the LPGA playing Bay Hill, Augusta National, Doral, and Muirfield Village!

Would You Like To See LPGA Play the Same Courses as the PGA?

Wouldn’t you love to see Inbee Park and Stacy Lewis battle it out down the 18th at Doral’s Blue Monster?

In general, I would like to see the LPGA compete more often on the PGA courses, with the changes that make it fair for women players, of course. The women usually play separate courses, which are not as exciting as most of the men’s courses.

Last year, Juli Inkster said that the men play great golf courses week in and week out, where most of the LPGA courses are ‘good’ but not usually ‘great.’ That is why the LPGA players were all thrilled to play the 2014 U.S. Open at the famous Pinehurst No. 2 Course. The premium courses draw bigger crowds and are in pristine condition normally, which leads to better scoring opportunities and more excitement.

Instead of seeing Tiger Woods hole a clutch putt at the 18th at Bay Hill, wouldn’t you love to see Kristie Kerr do the same thing?

Michael Whan, Commissioner for the LPGA, tried to convince the USGA to put the Women’s Open on the same course as the men for 2015, but that didn’t happen.

Oh well, maybe this one time, it was not bad to play a different course. Sorry RTJ, Jr.!

One of my favorite female players on the LPGA Tour is Suzann Pettersen.

This Norweigan player, whose adopted hometown is Orlando, FL, has just won her 15th LPGA tournament at the Manulife LPGA Classic in Cambridge, Ontario. She has also won 7 times on the Ladies European Tour.

Pettersen credited new coach Butch Harmon for taking her game to the next level. However, I have followed Suzann’s career for several years, and I feel that her aggressive, no-fear style of play was a big factor in this latest victory. The weather at Whistle Bear Golf Club featured howling winds each day, so Pettersen’s play method, plus her physical strength, definitely helped her capture the trophy. I’ve loved watching the TV clips of Suzann going through her work-out routines in the gym – she is relentless in achieving optimum strength and flexibility to reach her golf goals.

Have I mentioned that she is 5’8” and a natural beauty? Go, Suzann!

Who is Back in the Winner's Circle - One of my Favorite Female Players!

Suzann Pettersen kisses her trophy after finishing first at the Manulife LPGA Classic at the Whistle Bear Golf Club at Cambridge, Ont. on June 7, 2015. (ERNEST DOROSZUK/Toronto Sun)

CAMBRIDGE, ONT. – Suzann Pettersen is back in the winner’s circle, and she’s giving a good chunk of the credit to her new swing coach Butch Harmon.

Pettersen birdied holes 16 and 17 with the wind howling at Whistling Bear Golf Club to edge former winner Brittany Lang by a stroke to take the fourth instalment of the Manulife LPGA Classic.

It was her first win in two years and the first win at this event by a European.

Lang had the low round of the day at seven under but it was Pettersen who came charging down the stretch to regain a lead she had held for the better part of half the tournament.

Lang strung together birdies on 15, 16, and 17 and after a par on 18 headed over to the gallery to sign autographs for fans while she waited for Pettersen, who was a stroke back with two holes to play, to finish.

Before Lang had strayed too far from the scorer’s tent, Pettersen had already taken that stroke back with a birdie on 16 and then birdied 17 to take the lead for good as it turned out.

Afterward, Pettersen spoke glowingly of the impact Harmon has had on her game.

She moved on from long time coach David Leadbetter after an injury-plagued 2014 and started working with Harmon in December.

“I have only good things to say about Butch,” Pettersen said.

“He took my game to a new level. He’s no sugar coater and gives me what I need every single time. It’s nice to finally see the results. Obviously, I can see the difference in my game but the general public might not see what I feel.”

Everyone saw what Pettersen was feeling this week in Cambridge as she went three full rounds without a bogey before carding two in the first five holes Sunday as the wind picked up at Whistle Bear allowing the course to finally show some teeth.

“I managed to get my head together and play some good golf and played aggressive after that,” Pettersen said.

The saving grace may have come on the 12th hole, where Pettersen drained a 25-footer from the fringe for eagle and a two-shot lead at that point.

She would need that and more after Lang’s late charge. But that set the tone for the rest of the day for Pettersen.

“Hopefully I didn’t peak one week too early,” Pettersen said already looking ahead to next week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. “This is the start of a big summer. There is a lot to be done. You can’t sit and enjoy too much. Already tomorrow you have to get ready and start preparing for the next one.”

As for Harmon, he just suits Pettersen’s needs right now.

“He is a great mentor more than anything and he makes you work hard and hard work pays off,” Pettersen said. “That’s what I live for.”

The win was the 15th of Pettersen’s career. With Harmon on side, you can bet she has plans for more.

It’s nice to see a different Woods making a big impression on the golf scene.

LPGA Tour rookie, Cheyenne Woods, is playing fabulous golf north of the border this week. She shot a course-record 63 in the first round of the Manulife LPGA Classic at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.

Woods loves Drake, the famous Canadian rapper, songwriter, and actor, and attended his concert in Toronto earlier in the week. When Drake followed up by posting a picture of her with him on his Instagram account, she was over the moon!

Thanks to John Holmes for his story at Golf Buzz for PGA.com.

Cheyenne Woods meets Music Man and Breaks Course Record!

Cheyenne Woods holds the Course Record Scorecard from the first round of the 2015 LPGA Manulife Classic.

Drake is one of Cheyenne Woods’ favorite performers, and he just happened to be playing a concert in his hometown of Toronto earlier this week. So Woods – an LPGA Tour rookie and the niece of Tiger Woods – asked her manager to track down a few tickets.

Done, and done. Woods, accompanied by fellow players Sadena Parks and Jaye Marie Green, attended the show, and met Drake afterward. Drake even posted a photo of himself with her on his Instagram account – thrilling her, and getting her 500 new followers to boot!

Clearly, the good feelings she got from the show carried over to today’s first round of the Manulife LPGA Classic in nearby Cambridge, Ontario.

She went out and shot a course-record 63 to grab the first-round lead. Later in the day, Cristie Kerr and P.K. Kongkraphan tied her.

“I have always been a huge Drake fan,” Woods said afterward. “I listen to him when I warm up, off the course, everything. When I saw that he released his tour schedule, I looked at it to see if any of the cities matched up with our Tour stops.”

Former World #2 Paula Creamer had a spectacular amateur career before turning Pro in 2005.

She won 19 National tournaments and was voted “Player of the year” by the AJGA in 2003.  As a professional, she has won 10 times on the LPGA Tour, one being the US Open in 2010.  She has won another 2 tournaments worldwide.

Her conduct both on and off the course has always been exemplary, and she is a darling with the crowds!  This photoshoot for Golfweek gives a little insight into this popular (and good looking) star!

Social Media is huge these days, and the followers of the PGA and LPGA Tour players expect updates on what their idols are doing almost every second of the day!

With Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc., it makes my head spin!  But the significance of all of this is marketing!  These players are promoting their brand and are very good at it.

What distinguishes the PGA Tour’s best pros to follow on social media?

It’s more than just the number of followers. For example, the bland and corporate Tiger Woods Twitter account has 4.46 million followers but isn’t worth paying attention to. Woods’ self-serving tweets come in biweekly and are largely commercial efforts. Likewise, Rory McIlroy doesn’t deliver the depth or volume of social media morsels you’d hope for.

To be among the best, you have to post with regularity, engage fans and generally entertain.

Who satisfies the above criteria best?

Brooke Henderson leads her own ‘Grow-the game’ charge for women’s golf in Canada.

At 17 years, Henderson is not old enough to be a member of the LPGA Tour but has played several events on sponsor exemptions.

She finished third at the Swinging Skirts Classic in April ’15, having missed a play-off by one stroke. Henderson also stood out at the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout, where she led midway and finally finished in the 13th spot.

Recently, her play in the LPGA Kingsmill Championship netted her a 25th place finish. She has already accepted sponsor exemptions for 3 more LPGA events.

Besides her phenomenal skills at only 17 years of age, this player also exudes a great personality. Kim Valleau, co-ordinator of the junior girl’s program at Calgary Elks Golf Club, says about Brooke, “I think she’s going to be the one that Junior girls look up to in Canadian golf. She’s so well-composed on the course, too, from what I’ve seen.”

Henderson is getting TV press, and she has a prolific presence all over social media. Wes Gilbertson of the Toronto Sun gives us the latest scoop!

Brooke Henderson is shot-in-arm for Canadian Golf!

Brooke Henderson hits a shot during the final round of the 2015 Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout Presented at Las Colinas Country Club earlier this month in Irving, Texas.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way right now!

Brooke Henderson won’t be teeing it up at a Canadian Women’s Tour stop next week at Glencoe Golf & Country Club.

The good news is the teen phenom from Smiths Falls, Ont., will instead be preparing for another start on the LPGA Tour, and with every high-def appearance on Golf Channel, there’s growing excitement about the impact she’ll eventually have on would-be birdie-machines from across the Great White North.

“I think there will start to be more Canadians watching the LPGA just to see how she’s doing, and if you get moms and dads sitting down with their girls to follow Brooke because she’s doing well, that’s just going to inspire that next generation,” said Matt Rollins, the executive director for Alberta Golf. “I think that’s important for them to have that hero.”

There was optimism a couple of months back that Henderson could be in the field for the Canadian Women’s Tour shootout in Calgary.

Brooke Henderson is shot-in-arm for Canadian Golf!

The two-day tourney runs next Tuesday-Wednesday on Glencoe’s Meadows loop — but that was before the 17-year-old star-in-the-making took the LPGA Tour by storm.

Henderson finished third at the Swinging Skirts Classic last month, missing out on a playoff by just one stroke, and was leading at the midway mark of the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout before fading to 13th.

This weekend, she climbed several rungs on the leaderboard in Sunday’s final round en route to a 25th-place showing at the Kingsmill Championship.

Although she’s too young to officially join the LPGA Tour, Henderson has already accepted sponsor exemptions for the next three events, including the ShopRite Classic next week in Atlantic City, N.J.

Her upcoming schedule also includes the Manulife Classic from June 4-7 in Cambridge, Ont.

LPGA Players Paula Creamer and Brittany Lincicome are really pushing for a Women’s Masters at Augusta National.

Creamer proposes a back-to-back women’s tournament with the famous men’s tournament in April.

As Paula recently tweeted, “…. The fastest area of golf growth is women!” She mentions the Drive, Chip, and Putt tournament at Augusta that gives kids a chance to experience this famous place. That Junior Tournament has caught the attention of youngsters nation-wide and is helping to generate more golfers.

Is it time to expand the whole Master’s experience to include professional women players?

Tell me what you think!

Who is turning Up the HEAT for a Women's Masters?

Brittany Lincicome and Paula Creamer are two of four players pushing for a Women’s Masters Tournament.

Paula Creamer is calling for a women’s Masters at Augusta National.

Creamer would love for organizers to at least listen to the idea of women playing a Masters in consecutive weeks with the men’s tournament. She reiterated her thoughts Tuesday at Lake Merced Golf Club, where the Bay Area native is preparing for this week’s Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic.

“I’ve been there, I’ve played there, stayed in Butler’s Cabin,” said Creamer, the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open champion. “I had an awesome time. I think the patrons and everybody would love to have two weeks there, two tournaments. Why wouldn’t you? Hopefully, we will see something change and happen.”

While she hasn’t heard from anyone official at Augusta, there has been plenty of positive feedback since she made the comments. She wants to be part of golf taking steps to recruit the next generation of young players.

22-year-old South Korean player Sei Young Kim stunned her opponent on the final hole of the LOTTE Championship in Hawaii this past weekend.

This exciting new player first caught attention in Hawaii in February, when she won her first title in the Bahamas in only her second start as an LPGA member.

Sei Young Kim has just won her second LPGA Tour title in style at the LOTTE Championship. She had some luck on her side when she got into the playoff with Inbee Park. After finding the water off the tee on the final hole, she then chipped in for par. This tied her with the imposing and far more experienced Park. On the first playoff hole, Kim holed out her 154 yard second shot for eagle. WOW!

This engaging new star was so excited that she spoke to the media in English for the first time all week.

Here is the story, reported by ESPN.go.com

New Star on the LPGA Tour - Who Saw This Coming?

Inbee Park was simply stunned when Sei Young Kim holed her second shot on the first playoff hole of the Lotte Championship.

KAPOLEI, Hawaii — Sei Young Kim holed out from 154 yards for eagle to win the LPGA Tour’s Lotte Championship on the first hole of a playoff Saturday with Inbee Park.

“This is probably the second-most memorable shot for me,” Kim said through a translator. “In 2013, I won a tournament, which had the biggest prize money on KLPGA. I won that tournament by making a hole-in-one on 17, so that was probably my most memorable shot. Sorry.”

Her third-most memorable shot might have come on the 18th in regulation.

Moments after sinking a sneaky par putt on 17 to stay even with Park, Kim hit her drive into the water.

“I saw the ball go into the hazard and I thought, `What have I done to deserve this fate?” Kim said. “Then the gift came right back after that. I still can’t believe what just happened.”

Kim’s approach shot in regulation barely cleared the water, but stayed in the fringe fronting the green. After Park hit a brilliant lag putt to inches for a par to stay at 11 under, Kim chipped in from 18 feet to force the playoff.

She held both hands high, stared into the sky and grinned for the first time after 5 hours of immense pressure, slapping hands with her caddie.
