How would you like to have your portrait done?  In golf balls!

Wow, this is a really cool idea that AT&T is doing for an advertising campaign starting November 4th, 2015.  If you are in the Dallas, TX area, go and check this out.  Thanks so much to Chris Chaney, Wrong Fairway of back9network.com and AT&T for sharing this!

It’s tough to say who had a better 2015 season, Jordan Spieth or his sponsors. Either way, things are heading in the right direction for the the 22-year-old Texan’s #brand.

One of Spieth’s most prominent sponsors, AT&T, has used its relationship with the top-ranked golfer in the world to do a bit of guerilla marketing at Main Street Gardens in downtown Dallas. The end product, a mosaic of Speith holding his follow through, is available for public viewing through Thursday, Oct. 29.

If you’re not sure how 24,152 golf balls can make a picture, here’s a time-lapse video to show you.

Each of the 24,000-plus AT&T-logo balls were placed on tees, utilizing the grass beneath them to create negative space and a shading element. The mosaic, which was put together by a team of 25 people, will be the basis for an ad campaign that will roll out on Nov. 4.

When the piece is broken down later this week, AT&T will be donate the balls to the Dallas chapter of The First Tee and the Northern Texas PGA. A nice gesture, to be sure, but where have we seen another Spieth sponsor possibly use upwards of a couple thousand golf balls…

Each day soldiers go to war to protect the freedom and democracy of the USA.

Every day these brave soldiers risk their lives so we can go about our daily lives without fear.  We owe our Veterans a huge debt of gratitude.  This story by Joshua Peyton, President of the Veteran Golfers Association, gives us an insight and true perspective of what these people go through once they return home.  Golf is an outlet for many, and I think we should support them in any way we can.

There are a group of heroes in our country that need your assistance. These amazing men and women come from all walks of life – poor, wealthy, educated, and not. However, they all share two things in common – courage to defend our country and passion for the game of golf.

These veterans are facing some challenges though. Every 65 minutes, a veteran in our country commits suicide. Out of 2.7 million Vietnam soldiers that returned from war, 150,000 of them took their own lives. Since 9/11, the Department of Veterans Affairs reports 10,000 mental health requests from veterans a month due to PTSD, TBIs, and other combat related causes. How can we as a society help these heroes?

Please take a moment to watch this short video

I recently posted that the AT&T Pebble Beach Tournament had become a little ho-hum featuring the same celebrities of many years, the same corporate backslapping, etc.

A perfect example of injecting new life into a Tournament is the invitation, this week, by the Northern Trust Open.  14 top collegiate golfers get to play with Tour Players in a special tournament. Organizers call it the Collegiate Showcase. The winning university’s golf program gets a $50,000 donation.  Plus the collegians play for a chance to win one spot in the Northern Trust Open. I love this idea, which attracts more interest, especially from the younger generation, and raises money for collegiate golf.

Ben Alberstadt of golfwrx.com brings us this story.

This year at the Northern Trust Open, tournament officials are rolling out something new. On Monday, Feb. 16, the Northern Trust Open will kick off with something organizers are calling the Collegiate Showcase.

Here’s what it is

Tour pros are slated to play alongside 14 top collegiate golfers and an additional 28 amateurs. The pros and two amateurs will compete in a best-ball competition for the College Showcase Trophy and a $50,000 donation to the winning university’s golf program.

The collegians, for their part, will play their own ball for…wait for it…a spot in the Northern Trust Open.

How cool is that?

Talking about the Showcase, Northern Trust Open Executive Director O.D. Vincent said:

“Our goal is to promote growth of the game by bringing more attention, and ultimately funds, to collegiate golf, and to offer another avenue for an up-and-coming collegiate player to experience the best the PGA TOUR has to offer.”

Here are the players and college golfers set to take part in this interesting and innovative competition to experience “the best the PGA Tour has to offer.”

To celebrate the 30th year of this iconic event, AT&T is going to give four golf fans an exceptional behind-the-scenes view of the event.

These four include a wounded military vet, an African-American woman who helps other minority women learn the game, an average guy who quit his day job with ambitions of playing the Tour, and a teenager who golfs to gain confidence and other bashful girls.

What is on this program for this fortunate foursome?  A course historian takes them on a private tour of the famous pebble beach course, they receive a lesson from a top academy, they learn what’s involved in fundraising $120 million for charity. They get to watch the tournament from AT&T’s skybox.

Meet this special foursome and follow their journey.
