In a recent survey of PGA and LPGA players, the question was asked: “What is the biggest flaw you see each week with your amateur partners in the Pro-Am?”  The answer was almost universal.  They try to hit the ball too hard!  If amateurs went to the range and only worked on tempo, they would develop a smooth swing that is so much easier to time, and I can assure you, with almost no loss of distance!  Listen to Piers Ward, and Andy Proudman of meandmygolftv.com tell you how to swing your driver at a manageable pace!

“I do not want to hit my driver further,” said nobody ever!  Definitely, one of the thrills of golf is booming that drive long and straight down the fairway.  There is no better feeling in golf than the impact of the golf ball coming off the dead center of the clubface and seeing that ball started on a beautiful trajectory dead straight!  In this video, Piers Ward and Andy Proudman for meandmygolf.com  gives you his insights on how to accomplish more power in your game!

Eric Hogge, a PGA member and instructor in Port St. Lucie, Fl, shows you how the old adage of “Lifting your head” is, in fact, not the head at all!  It’s your rear end!  Yes, your butt pushes forward on the downswing, thus causing the spine to straighten.  As your head is attached to your spine (hopefully), the head comes up.  Here is a great drill to help you keep your spine angle through impact!  What will this, do you ask?  Help you to hit it further and straighter!

The Drill:

Place a golf bag behind you and allow your butt to touch your bag at the address. Then, while swinging the club, keep the butt against the bag.  This will guarantee that you will stay in your spine angle!

When I do a club fitting, I do what is termed “Dynamic Fitting.”  A dynamic fitting is where the student is measured while they are hitting balls, rather than a “static fitting,” which takes body measurements and fits the club according to those measurements. One of the “tools” I use the Mizuno shaft optimizer to give me clubhead speed, ball speed, shaft bend at the top of the swing, shaft bend halfway down, and the lick point right at impact.

Using the impact tape to see where the ball is coming off the clubface can tell you whether the clubs (or shafts) you are using are too light or too heavy, too long, or too short!   Go to a local golf store and purchase some impact tape and do the test yourself.  If the ball is not coming off the center, you will need to go to a professional fitter for help in changing the weight of the shaft or the length of the club.

Do you want to hit the ball in the center of the clubface more often?

Carolina “The Fit Golfer Girl” is getting a club fitting at Club Champion Golf in Delray Beach, Florida! Carolina says the weight of your clubs, especially your shafts, plus, tape on the bottom of the club to check  lie angle and face tape to check correct length! could make a huge difference to your game.
