I have never liked Jordan Spieth’s golf swing.  His “chicken wing” movement through the ball to me is still why he left the clubface open and the ball out to the right on the 12th hole at Augusta that finally cost him the tournament.  I’m interested in what Hank Haney has to say!

A few unconventional parts to Jordan Spieth’s swing, and Hank Haney analyses that swing here.  Haney also points out some tips to make you a better player.  Eliminating one side of the golf course from his game is one reason Jordan has reached the #1 player in the world!

There have been several players who have putted while looking at the hole. Johnny Miller won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am looking at the hole when he putted because he had the yips, and that was the only way he could putt without that deadly twitch.

The first time I ever saw this done was when Bobby Vervey, Gary Player’s brother-in-law, sank a 5 footer to win the 1991 Senior British Open.

When the late Dave Marr interviewed him after his round, he asked him if he knew that he looked at the hole and not at the ball for his final putt.  He said, “Yes, I was so nervous. If I had looked at the ball, I would have missed it!”  Jordan Spieth has turned this style of putting into an art form, sometimes looking at the ball and sometimes the hole.  Maybe this is something you should try and see if it helps your putts. Thanks to pga.com for this video!

Jordan Spieth’s putting clinics seen on the PGA Tour in 2015 were some of the best in recent memory.

He has such a natural stroke, something maybe he was born with.  He certainly makes it look effortless.  foxsportsasia.com talked to Jordan during the Australian Open and asked him to reveal his mental process when putting under pressure.  Read on to discover that there is no one definite way for Jordan.
Jordan Spieth reveals his "Bullet Proof" Putting Technique!

Jordan Spieth opened up on his putting technique and what he feels he can achieve in 2016.

During his week in Australia, the American was speaking, which culminated in the unsuccessful defense of his Australian Open title.

While it wasn’t the result the world number one was looking for, he was only one stroke off winner Matt Jones come Sunday afternoon in Sydney.

Spieth enjoyed a superlative 2015, winning two majors and wrapping up his first FedEx Cup title. His incredible form on the greens aided his success.

The 22-year-old amassed some amazing statistics on the putting surface, where he was ranked number one on the PGA Tour in putting average, one-putt percentage, and putts per round, to name a few.

He also drained 25 percent of putts from between 20 and 25 feet, which is astonishing. However, Spieth bevies the key lies in making all the short putts.

Jordan Spieth is currently competing in the 2015 Australian Open, which he won in 2014.

I absolutely love giving junior clinics.  The enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge are inspiring and I can always tell who is going to make it and who is not.  Those prepared to put in the time to get what they want will always be a winner in life!

When I saw this story depicting Spieth giving a clinic to 60 Junior golfers at Emirates Australian Open Village, I had to share it.
First of all, it’s just fun to see 60 girls and boys all lined up with Jordan, and dressed in Spieth-wear. Blue shirts, white slacks, and white cap.
Secondly, I love the comment by the Pro from MyGolf (Australia’s Nat’l Junior program) where he asks in what other sport do you find the No. 1 player taking time out to give clinics to kids? Look at the smiles on those faces!
Thanks to Golf Australia for sharing!

Sometimes I forget that Jordan Spieth is only 22 years old.

When I hear that he hasn’t played some of the famous courses like Shinnecock and Carnoustie, I am, at first, surprised. Then I remember his age and the fact that he has played only 3 years on the PGA Tour.

Spieth’s schedule of tournaments, practice, sponsorship duties, travel, etc. allows little time to play courses just for pleasure.

Besides a couple in Australia. . . Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath, which Spieth will play this week, he wishes to play 3 notable U.S. Courses.

See this cool story from The Associated Press to learn which courses are on Spieth’s bucket list and why!

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Jordan Spieth knows how to mix business with pleasure. His business is playing great golf. His pleasure is playing great golf courses.

Spieth leaves this week for Down Under, where he defends his title Nov. 26-29 in Sydney at the Australian Open. The first stop is Melbourne and a chance to play the fabled sand belt courses. He has games lined up at Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath.

“I’ve heard Kingston Heath is unbelievable,” Spieth said. “And then Royal Melbourne, I hear you get on the first tee and think, `Piece of cake,’ and then watch your tee shot bounce in the air. There and then Long Island, the courses there, are on my bucket lists of courses I haven’t played yet.”

Spieth surely has a long list. He’s only 22 and just completed his third year as a pro.

What intrigues him about Melbourne’s sand belt and Long Island (Shinnecock, National Golf Links) is “that style of golf was meant for that area.”

Wow, this is a really cool idea that AT&T is doing for an advertising campaign starting November 4th, 2015.  If you are in the Dallas, TX area, go and check this out.  Thanks so much to Chris Chaney, Wrong Fairway of back9network.com and AT&T for sharing this!

It’s tough to say who had a better 2015 season, Jordan Spieth or his sponsors. Either way, things are heading in the right direction for the the 22-year-old Texan’s #brand.

One of Spieth’s most prominent sponsors, AT&T, has used its relationship with the top-ranked golfer in the world to do a bit of guerilla marketing at Main Street Gardens in downtown Dallas. The end product, a mosaic of Speith holding his follow through, is available for public viewing through Thursday, Oct. 29.

If you’re not sure how 24,152 golf balls can make a picture, here’s a time-lapse video to show you.

Each of the 24,000-plus AT&T-logo balls were placed on tees, utilizing the grass beneath them to create negative space and a shading element. The mosaic, which was put together by a team of 25 people, will be the basis for an ad campaign that will roll out on Nov. 4.

When the piece is broken down later this week, AT&T will be donate the balls to the Dallas chapter of The First Tee and the Northern Texas PGA. A nice gesture, to be sure, but where have we seen another Spieth sponsor possibly use upwards of a couple thousand golf balls…

We’ve had Tiger and Lindsey Vonn, Rory and Caroline Wozniacki, etc., but now there are newcomers surfacing as high-profile couples in golf.

21-year-old Jordan Spieth and high school sweetheart Annie Verret are current media darlings. His record-breaking successes on the PGA Tour plus an enduring relationship with a beautiful business major from Texas Tech puts this twosome in the spotlight.

I would choose Jack and Barbara Nicklaus as the most-to-be-admired power couple. They devote untold amounts of time and money to supporting children’s hospitals, in addition to other philanthropic ventures.

Who else made the 7 power couples list?

Thanks to Stephen Nixon at bleacherreport.com for his story.

Jack and Barbara Nicklaus

5. Jack and Barbara Nicklaus

Associated Press

Jack Nicklaus is arguably the greatest golfer to ever live, and his wife of nearly 55 years is just as important.

Barbara Nicklaus was named the winner of the 2015 Bob Jones Award by the USGA. The award pays tribute to someone who demonstrates spirit, character, and respect for the sport of golf. What makes this award so unique is that Jack won the same award in 1975.

The two are the definition of a power couple in terms of wealth because Jack is worth an estimated $280 million.

The couple is also huge supporters of the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, which recently made a $60 million pledge to the Miami Children’s Health System.

Continuing to make headlines for all the right reasons, the two have been great ambassadors for the game of golf.

Phil and Amy Mickelson

4. Phil and Amy Mickelson

Whenever there is a picture of Phil Mickelson, his wife Amy is usually close by.

The two are inseparable, and the pictures of him kissing her with his young kids after a victory are endless. For the best golfers in the world, there usually seems to be a breakup at some point, but not for “Lefty.”

He has been by Amy’s side for years, through the ups and downs. Amy’s battle with breast cancer has been a struggle, but he’s always been supportive as she fought the deadly disease.

Next to Tiger Woods, Mickelson is the best-known professional golfer of the past 20 years, and his wife has been there every step of the way.

With an estimated net worth of $256 million, the couple is two of the most recognized people in golf and will continue to be for a very long time.

Rickie Fowler and Alexis Randock

2. Rickie Fowler and Alexis Randock

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

After recently winning the biggest tournament of his career, Rickie Fowler has been all over the news.

Not only has he been in the headlines, but his girlfriend has been right there beside him. Fowler’s model girlfriend, Alexis Randock, has been all over social media for the past week.

After Fowler won The Players Championship, Randock captivated audiences everywhere by having a movie-esque make-out scene immediately following. With roughly 48,400 Instagram followers, Randock has been making a name for herself, and the couple’s popularity is growing every day.

Although they have been dating for less than a year, Fowler and Randock are at the top of everybody’s golf couples lists, and for good measure.

Getting a haircut and shaving his mustache is really paying off for Fowler.

Each generation of golfers earns more money than the previous generation.

Going back to Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player, all of whom have stellar careers, none of them came even close to winning on the course of what today’s players earn.  That is just a fact of life!  However, even with Jordan Spieth’s great 2015, he still cannot compare to what Tiger earned at the peak of his career.  The good news in all of this?  I cannot wait to see what Jordan. Jason, Rickie, Rory, Bubba, Henrick, and Adam have in store for us in the next 10 years!

Thanks to   of ibtimes.com for this well put together article!

Jordan Spieth confidently rolled the most expensive putt you’ll ever see Sunday, the ball beelining straight to the center of the cup on No. 18 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. With a shrug, the slightest of fist pumps and a wry grin, the 22-year-old was $11.5 million richer: $1.5 million for winning the Tour Championship and $10 million in bonus cash for his FedEx Cup playoffs victory.

It was a capstone moment to a season that has made Spieth one of golf’s most successful and richest players.

Spieth is expected to surpass $50 million in total 2015 earnings — endorsements and other income included — putting him atop the game while supplanting Tiger Woods, who has led the game for 12 straight years, according to Golf Digest estimates. But while Spieth, just three years into his career, seems destined for continued success both financially and professionally, he’ll likely never reach the endorsement successes of Woods in his prime.

“It’s going to be very, very difficult to measure up to the Tiger Woods phenomenon,” said Galen Clavio, a sports management professor at Indiana University.

The Sky Is The Limit

Tiger in his Prime still outpaces Jordan Spieth - Check it out!

It’s hard to have a better season than Spieth just capped by winning the Tour Championship. He won five times, including two majors in the Masters and the U.S. Open, while bringing home $12 million just in winnings cash, breaking Vijay Singh’s 2004 record of $10.9 million. Including the $10 million from winning the four-tournament FedEx Cup series, Spieth outpaced Woods’ 2007 record for total earningsof $20.9 million. He is ranked No. 1 in the world and will almost certainly soon be named the PGA Tour Player of the Year.

Still, Spieth is a long way from the earning power of Woods during his prime. Golf Digest projected Monday that Spieth would overtake Woods as the top total earner for 2015, pushing past $50 million. But in 2007, when Woods was omnipresent and before his spectacular fall from grace in an infidelity scandal, he pulled in an estimated $122.7 million through winnings and endorsements, according to Golf Digest. He easily topped Forbes magazine’s earnings list for athletes.

PGA Tour Player Jordan Spieth is surely on track to win many more majors, following his incredible Masters and US Open wins in 2015 at 21 years of age

Which Young Golfer Will Win More Majors - Lydia Ko or Spieth?

LPGA Tour Player Lydia Ko is the youngest major champion in women’s golf history at 18 years of age and is also the youngest ever number 1 player in the world.

With those facts in mind, I found this conversation between ESPN.com staff to be of great interest.

Golf Analyst Michael Collins and writer Jason Sobel go with Jordan Spieth. One reason they cite is that Spieth will have a much longer career. Ko recently said that she plans to retire at 30, limiting her chances to win majors.

ESPN writer Bob Harig and anchorman Jonathan Coachman declare that Lydia Ko will win more majors than Spieth for 2 very compelling reasons.

Thanks to espn.com for this article:

Which Young Golfer Will Win More Majors - Lydia Ko or Spieth?

Lydia Ko’s victory at the Evian Championship made the 18-year-old the youngest major champion in women’s golf history. Not a bad way to cap off a year in which she also demolished the mark as the youngest golfer to reach No. 1 in the world, male or female.

So why isn’t she getting more accolades for her accomplishments?

And what about Phil Mickelson, at 30th on the Presidents Cup points list, getting the nod as one of Jay Haas‘ captain’s picks?

Our scribes weigh in on those topics and more in this week’s edition of Monday Four-Ball.

1. Why isn’t Lydia Ko’s amazing ascendancy receiving more attention?

SportsCenter anchor Jonathan Coachman:

Lydia Ko is simply a low-key person who is an amazing champion. The reason she is not getting more attention is because of how she goes about her business. She is not an intense, win-at-all-costs competitor. But I think that she has something inside of her that allows her to play well every single week. But she is not a me-me-me person. And if you don’t draw attention to yourself, you normally don’t get it.

ESPN.com senior golf analyst Michael Collins:

A few reasons. This so-called major was contrived just two years ago and didn’t come about over the test of time like other majors. It was played in France with a very small American audience. Most importantly, this win happened on the opening weekend of the NFL and second weekend of college football.

ESPN.com senior golf writer Bob Harig:

Why hasn’t Jordan Spieth gotten more attention? It’s golf, a niche sport that at times has trouble gaining traction. Obviously Spieth’s Grand Slam run got its share of notice this summer, but women’s golf has it even harder than the men’s game. Some of the tournaments are not on live TV. Many are played internationally. It’s simply a sad reality that remains difficult to overcome.

ESPN.com senior golf writer Jason Sobel:

There’s one reason — and it’s a simple one: We’ve become desensitized to dominance in women’s golf, even if it didn’t come at such a young age for Ko’s predecessors. From Annika Sorenstam to Lorena Ochoa to Yani Tseng to Inbee Park, the past two decades of LPGA golf have often offered us a single top player who’s clearly better than the competition. It’s not Ko’s fault she doesn’t get more attention. She deserves it. But the only reason she doesn’t is because we too often feel like this is the fourth sequel to a story we’ve already read.

What is “Mirror Neurons,” and why are they vital to Jordan Spieth?

Golf Chats is a website to encourage discussions on various subjects relating to the game of golf. To explain mirror neurons, we can simply say, “monkey see, monkey do.”

Our daily actions are influenced by the things we see, and if we like what we see, we’ll tend to imitate or “mirror” those actions.  The science of “mirror neurons” is still fairly new, and more research has to be done, but this is cutting edge technology and is worth pursuing if you wish to improve your game.  Jordan Spieth is ahead of the curve, and the rest of the world needs to catch up!  Thanks to Golf Digest and  for a great article.

What are "Mirror Neurons" and why are they vital to Jordan Spieth?

Jordan Spieth hits the ball beautifully and has a terrific short game, but so do a lot of tour pros. Much has been made of the idea that he possesses rare mental strength. The things that make Jordan the competitor he is are countless, but there is one habit of his you’d do well to adopt.

Now don’t be overwhelmed. The practice of this habit is thankfully simple, but the thinking behind it comes from a complex frontier in cognitive science. There’s controversy about how exactly we should interpret the discovery of “mirror neurons,” but how they can help you play better golf is certain.

Your brain has 100 billion little things called neurons.

Whenever you do something, like scrunch your nose or swing a golf club, a bunch of these neurons fire in rapid succession. Their trail is like a signature. The trail of Jordan’s neurons commanding his arms and legs to swing a club doesn’t look the same as yours, or Rory’s or Dustin’s, but it’s similar. In a motor-neuron sense, the pros basically have better penmanship.

When you simply watch someone do something, like scrunch a nose or swing a golf club, the same sequence of neurons in your brain lights up as if you were doing the motion. Well, at least a portion of these neurons do, usually around 20 percent. These are the mirror neurons. They write the same message, just in fainter ink.

The implications are astounding. Mirror neurons explain why amputees who suffer from phantom-limb syndrome–a sensation of pain in a foot they no longer have, for example–experience relief when watching someone else massage a foot. It might also explain why baseball batters have a better chance of getting a hit if they’ve just watched, from the on-deck circle, their teammate get a hit. On a physical level, it suggests our minds are constantly communicating and learning from each other.

It’s as if we have one giant brain separated by our skin.

As Dr. Vilayanur Ramachandran, director of the Center for Brain and Cognition at the University of California, said in a TED Talk, “This, of course, is the basis of much of Eastern philosophy.  That there is no real independent self aloof from other human beings.  You are, in fact, connected not just via Facebook and the Internet, you’re actually quite literally connected by your neurons.” Ramachandran says the rise of culture is because of the uncommon strength of the mirror-neuron system. Which lets us spread newfound knowledge and skills quickly across our population.

So what does this have to do with golf?

For one thing, it explains why most of us tend to play better when paired with better golfers.  Or worse when we play with people who don’t take the game as seriously. Jordan noticed this as a teenager. We talked about it, and from then on he made a concerted effort to pay keen attention to players who do things well, and to ignore those who didn’t.

Here’s how you can put it into practice for your game.
