Have you ever hit a shot and knew it was perfect the moment it came off the clubface.

Not only did Thomas Bjorn know that, in his match on the 14th hole of the second round of the 2003 World Match Play Championship, but Ernie Els, his opponent, knew as well.  “That was a perfect shot,” said Ernie as the ball came off the clubface.  And how right he was!

Sir Nick Faldo recounts the greatest shot of his career at Muirfield during the 1992 Open Championship on the 18th hole on the final day.  Needing a 4 to secure victory, Sir Nick hit a laser 3 iron to just past the flag, allowing him two putts for victory.  Great stuff!

In our continuing series of top golfers describing  “My best Shot” this week, it is the turn of Rory McIlroy who describes the  2nd shot in the playoff at the 2008 Hong Kong Open against Francesco Molinari and Lin Wen-tang as his “Best Shot” ever!

To hook a shot is no big deal.  But to hook a Sand Wedge 50 years from behind a tree, over a lake, and onto the green is a feat Rory will never forget.  He must have been channeling Seve at that moment!

This is #6 in our series of “My Best Shot” brought to you by Golfing World

We have already seen Suzann Pettersen, Charl Schwartzel, Lexi Thompson, Jack Nicklaus, and Oliver Wilson.

U.S. Open champion Justin Rose  talks us through his best shots ever. He was between the iconic chip-in on the 18th green in the final round  of the 1969 Open Championship for a 69 at Royal Birdale, to finish in 4th place. Which you would have thought would be the catalyst to springboard a great professional career.  But alas he did not make 21 consrcutive cuts at the start of his career. And it was quite a while befor his next iconic shot!

But it was in the 2013 US Open where he hit a tremendous 4 iron into the 18th to seal victory in the tournamant!  Channeling the famous Ben Hogan 1 iron to win the 1950 US Open, he pulled off a mirror image of that shot.  Landing in the middle of the green for an easy 2 putt!  This is his choice of “Best Shot Ever.”

LPGA Star Lexi Thompson tells Golfing World in their series “My Best Shot” about her most memorable shot.

Lexi had two putts for the win at Guadalajara Country Club in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational to win.  She left the eagle putt about 6 feet short.  She zoned everything out, committed to the shot, and hit it right in the middle.  Already a winner on the Europen Ladies Tour and 3 times on the LPGA Tour, said “It was really an honor” to win the one with her childhood heroes, Lorena Ochoa, standing by!
