Getting the ball up and down from around the green takes practice.  But how do you know what to practice?   gives you his expert advice on how to do it.  Thanks to Golf Digest for sharing!

Little Pitch Shots.

Little pitch shots, like the one below, drive golfers nuts. First off, they use too much loft. The more loft you have, the bigger swing you need. And more swing means more things can go wrong. So unless you have no green to work with, keep your lob wedge in the bag.

Second issue: Most golfers don’t trust the loft they have, so they try to add more at impact. They flick their wrists, dip down, rock onto the back foot … I think you see where I’m going here.

Let’s give you a simple plan for hitting the basic pitch. Take a narrow stance, with the ball about middle, and favor your front foot (1). Lean the shaft a touch toward the target, and keep your grip pressure light.

Swing straight back, and let your wrists hinge with the momentum (2). Don’t add hinge, and don’t let the club sweep inside—both lead to fat shots.

I have posted several articles on one pre-shot routine, but non so important as a pre-shot routine in putting.  If you don’t think it’s important, watch the very best.  Not one of them just walks up to the ball and hits.  Watch this video and not only learn, but take it to the course the next time you play!

Watching Butch Harmon and Rickie Fowler working on a four-footer, Butch explains if he took a stopwatch and timed Rickie on his first putt on the first hole and then again on the 72nd hole to win the tournament, the timing would be exactly the same.  This is because Rickie’s pre-shot routine is the same every time.  Learn from this and develop your own routine for every putt you face on the course!

I regard Butch Harmon as the best golf instructor alive today.  His success with Tiger Woods from 1997 to 2000 is legendary. And now Rickie Fowler is consistently competing for top honors in every major championship due to Harmon’s coaching. Butch has been working with Rickie for several years now, and his swing changes have made him a far better player.  Rickie needs a Major Championship to take his stature in the game to the next level! I think Butch is the man to help him with that!

Watch as Butch explains why most amateurs slice and what you can do to fix it!

I had no doubt in my mind the moment Rickie Fowler started working with Butch Harmon that this was a recipe for success for Rickie!  Butch is not a “mechanical” teacher, and that’s what Rickie needed.  Just simple changes that would make a tremendous difference to his game.  It is only a matter of time before he wins a Major!  Thanks to  of Golf Digest, in collaboration with Rickie Fowler, for producing this interesting article!

After Tiger Woods shot an 85 in the third round of the 2015 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, the naysayers were out in full force!

“Tiger is finished”  “Tiger needs to pack it in”  Wow, what a lot of bull!  Jack himself has been through slumps like this, and what did he do?  He went back to his original coach Jack Grout and worked on the basic fundamentals of grip, aim, posture, and ball position.  A little work with Phil Rogers on his short game and voila, Jack was back.

He won the US Open a short while later and went on to win another 3 Majors after that!  So why am I posting this article?  Because I think Tiger needs to put his pride in his pocket and go and see Butch.  I think Butch can get him back in about a week.  Come on, Tiger, as your sponsor company, Nike, says, “Just Do It!”   Thanks to this insightful article by Marc Lancaster writing for Sporting News.

Butch Harmon isn’t going to coach Tiger Woods full-time again, but he is willing to help the fallen star if asked.

Harmon told Golf World he wouldn’t rebuff an approach from Woods, his pupil for a decade at the beginning of the golfer’s pro career, but he isn’t sitting around waiting for a call.

“If he wanted, I’d be more than happy to spend a couple hours and give him my opinion,” Harmon said. “I don’t think he would ask because it goes against his pride.”

Woods and Harmon parted ways in 2002, and by most accounts, haven’t looked back.

Talk of a reunion tends to bubble up whenever Woods hits a particularly rough patch — the current one certainly qualifies — but that chatter generally has been quashed in a hurry, often by Harmon.

At 71, he’s still out on Tour working with a variety of players, including Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler, so he’s all too familiar with Woods’ woes. Harmon is especially perplexed by Woods’ short-game trouble
