Perception and Reality – What you feel and what is are not the same!

Golf Chats is a website to encourage discussions on various subjects relating to the game of golf. I am Mel Sole, Director of Instruction of the Mel Sole Golf School and SAPGA Master Professional.  I invite you to enter into a discussion on this or any article on the golfchats.com website.  The input is for the entire subscriber base to learn something new each time!  Please post your comments below.  Keep it clean and tasteful.  We are here to learn from one another!

When students see their golf swings on video for the first time, they are always amazed at how different their swings look from how their swings felt!

That is because there are perception and reality!  We perceive things differently from how things actually are.  To overcome that, you need feedback.  Feedback can be in the form of a second pair of eyes.  Someone can tell you whether you are moving your head or not.  Feedback can be in the form of your divot.  The back edge will give you clubface angle, and direction will give you clubhead path.  Then there is the feedback from a teaching aid.  I have always felt that it was the most powerful.  Here Sam from Eyeline Golf tells us how the 360-degree mirror can help you understand that reality on the range.

Have you thought about how difficult it is to accurately describe with words, how you want your students to move?  It seems to require a communication ninja!

Picture = 1000 words.  The 360 Mirror is your wordsmith weapon.
Perception and Reality - Learn the difference!

Let them see themselves at the top of their swing in the mirror, and then hit a ball 2 seconds later – without ever coming out of posture.  Look, repeat, look, repeat … faster than a camera!

Bring your dry erase marker to the range or putting green.  Mark the mirror where you want their attention.

Give them one to take to their practice session (or let them buy one), and every swing will have a purpose.
Check out the link below to see the 360 Mirror in action!

I’ve used it, seen it in action, and will recommend it to my friends!  Sure, I may be a little biased, but it truly is a great tool 🙂

I have always felt that if golfers are serious about improving their games, these 2 items will definitely help.

1. Always have alignment sticks in your golf bag.

2. Carry a Putting Alignment Mirror in your golf bag.

If you are missing any of these items, make sure to rectify this in the next few days.  If you do, your golf game will be well on the way to improving.

And, Oh yes, please use these products!  Don’t just leave them in the trunk of your car.  Keep them in your bag at ALL times!

The final step would be to take instruction from a good instructor!

The Putting Alignment Mirror is the perfect way to get ready to play. Toss it down, line it up, check your setup lines, and build confidence. Check your putter face alignment, eye position and throw it back in your bag. It has putter gate slots to assure sweet-spot contact. Head to the 1st tee hunting for birdies.
