Former World #1 Luke Donald has been a Mizuno player most of his career, so this mizunogolfeurope golf tip should be presented.  According to Luke, the key to hitting good bunker shots is to pick the ball clean off the sand.  Here are his keys:

1. Dig the feet in the sand for good footing.

2. Grip down because of digging the feet in.

3. Try and have more of a sweeping motion than a digging motion with the club.

4. Very Stable with the legs.

5 Swing Easy!

If you really want to improve your overall golf game, look at what the good players do.  I like to look for common denominators.  If there is something that most of the good players do, then that is something you want to incorporate into your golf game.  If there is something that none of them do, then that is something you want to stay away from.  Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are both former #1’s globally, and Danny Willett recently won the Masters.  So, pretty good players to emulate.  Mark Crossfield breaks down the swings of these 3 players and reveals the common denominators that made them great!

Golf Swing Weekly Fix Learn From The Best. In this week’s episode Mark Crossfield PGA professional talks about what he has learnt from 3 top PGA and European tour players. In 2011 Luke Donald attained the #1 position in the World.

He did this with magnificent putting, something he has been the best for the last 8 years.  However, you don’t get to the #1 spot just on putting alone.  You have to hit the ball on the green to putt for those birdies.  Here is Luke’s swing in slow motion.  It is a beautiful thing to behold.

Quite a few people on youtube.com mention that they think the clubface is closed halfway back.  This is not true.  If you pause the swing in this position, you will see that the clubface is perfectly square to his spine angle.  This indicates that there has been no manipulation of the hands to get the toe pointing up, a position taught by many instructors. In Luke’s case, he simply starts the club back with his chest and rotates, allowing the club to stay on plane and get the club to the top also in a square position.

But the thing most amateurs can learn from this swing is to watch the downswing!  There is no attempt to start the downswing with the hands.  His weight shift and body rotation are caused by pulling down with his left side, and the club will then automatically stay beautifully on plane again on the downswing.
