Leaving your putts short: It’s one of golf’s cardinal sins!
In some conditions, like wet, slow greens, you may need to adjust your strategy to avoid leaving your putts short. In this month’s Video Golf Tip, Mel provides an easy method that’s a guaranteed way to stop leaving putts short. Watch closely, because as Yogi Berra once said, “99% of putts that stop short, don’t go in.”
The principle I use here is that of a basketball player. When he shoots, he looks at the hoop and shoots. If the ball is too soft, the next one is harder. If it’s too hard, the next one is softer. You do the same thing with your putter. When you practice your putting, look at the hole (This is only in practice) and allow your subconscious to decide how hard to hit it. If you hit it too soft…….. You get the picture!

When I teach pitching at my golf school, it always surprises me how many students don’t carry a lob wedge.
Many say they cannot hit a lob wedge. First of all, a lob wedge is just another golf club. It has a head, shaft, and a grip, so I cannot see why this would be any different from a sand wedge, other than the fact that the lob wedge is going to add a higher, softer landing shot to your arsenal! If you feel you cannot hit your lob wedge well, please go to the range and practice with this club until you master it. It will save you many, many shots during your round. I explain how to play a delicate lob shot over a bunker to a really close flag in this video. Enjoy!

I have had the good fortune to play several rounds at the Old Course at St. Andrews, and on each occasion, it has been a memorable experience.
Walking those hallowed grounds, playing golf on a course that has been used for that purpose for centuries, is truly an honor and never taken for granted. I host a trip to Scotland every 3 years, and my next trip will be in 2017. Click here for details.

Hybrid clubs are a golf club that combines the best things about a wood and an iron into a single club.
Hybrids have a hollow metal wood head and a shorter club length for more control and distance than a long iron offers. Those who struggle with consistency with long irons may have more success with hybrids; however, there are secrets to making great hybrid shots. Mel Sole shares those essential tips for getting the most from hybrid clubs in this month’s video golf tip.

Many golfers don’t realize just how much their body moves when putting.
In this month’s Mel in Motion video golf tip, Mel provides us with a helpful drill you can do on the putting green or at your home or office that will help minimize body movement and give you tremendous improvements with your putting stroke.
By using a chair and placing the back of the chair against the back of your legs while in your putting stance. You can immediately feel if there is any movement in your lower body. The slightest movement in your lower body can be felt against the chair. By working on this, you can eliminate lower body movement by 100%. By doing this on a regular basis (I do this drill every month) you can totally eliminate lower body movement in your putting stroke, making sure that your putting stroke will be a lot more consistent in the future!

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Natalie Gulbis recently on a National Golf Management promo both at the River Club in Litchfield and then at Pawleys Plantation in Pawleys Island, SC.
She is as nice as she is beautiful! I hope now that her health problems are over, she will make a comeback on the LPGA Tour. Below, Natalie gives us a hot tip that she learned from Phil Mickelson, who shares the same coach in Butch Harmon.
Natalie Gulbis is one of the most beautiful stars on the LPGA Tour!
Natalie Gulbis’s Short Game Drill.
This popular LPGA Tour player demonstrates her favorite short game distance control drill here.
Do you sometimes get caught between clubs and have a fear of the 50 yards and in shots?
Walk off 50 yards, 40 yards & 30 yards, and place a basket or a towel at each distance mark. Practice hitting those targets and keep track of how many shots it takes to hit them. Get a friend to do this drill with you and make it a game, where the loser has to do push-ups or shell out a few bucks.
We all want to improve our distance control on the course. The instant feedback provided by this practice drill will help you to feel much more confident next time you’re facing those short shots.
